What is it that makes you choose what to sew? For me, it can be the image of the garment that I see or the fabric that can inspire me. Sometimes I will buy fabric just because I love it and other times I can already picture what I want to create from it. My state of mind right now is I want to be warm. This fabric was from my mom’s fabric stash – yes it runs in the family. The pattern I chose calls for a knit fabric; the fleece feels like a heavy knit with a great amount of stretch only in the crosswise (weft) direction.  The fleece side spoke warmth to me, so I went for it.

Just a quick note on fabric;  fabric choice is a whole new write-up. The wrong fabric can give you terrible results.  Anyone who has been sewing for a while can probably tell you a choice gone wrong. I know I have many.

I have many patterns marked to sew in my BurdaStyle stash of magazines. The teal fleece represented both sides to where I could either dress it up for a dressy casual side to full out comfort for cold days to stay in. The neckline is hand-finished to give it a nice finished edge. The sleeve has a wrist band, the bottom finish/hem is treated with a smaller band in front and a longer band in the back giving it a longer appearance.

Here you can see the hem bands for the front and bottom pieces.

Back View.  I realize my material is wrinkled, oops!

If you like the silhouette of the pullover, style number 129 from the same magazine, is the same without the sleeve bands or hem bands. It still gives you a longer back hem than the front hem but you can always alter it if you prefer it the same length.

I liked this pullover and can see myself making another one in the future.
